Spreading love with C-Heads!

I promise, you will not take your eyes off this magazine from Austria. Amazing visual stories from all around the World. A little bit sexy and very open. It is like watching someone’s private life via a keyhole. So what is the C-Heads magazine (which is made by sisters!)? Here is an interview with one of the editor-in-chief Christine. 

What is the main idea behind C-Heads magazine?

The basic idea of C-Heads is to create a place to dive away from everyday life for a while. To dive into a world that consists of art. Photography, music, or reading material that makes you think. C-Heads is like a book that you take in your hand and dive into different short stories. Stories of people from all over the world.

We deliberately devote ourselves only to the beautiful things. We want as good as no political discussions or the interpretation of current events. That already exists everywhere, even in the smallest private space. We want to be the book that tells a love story. That you put away at the end with a smile. And love the world for a moment.

​​The first „C-Heads“ issue was published in 2006. Tell us, how did you came up with this magazine idea?

Me and my sister have been enthusiastic about everything that has to do with photography since we were kids. We grew up without a digital camera and without a cell phone. We owned analog cameras and we took a lot of pictures with them. The fascination to “capture” something has always been with us.

Later we sat down with a friend and decided that we want to become Austria’s first online magazine. And we actually have made it. (laughing) It was an incredible time, back then it was all still new. Later on, the two of us continued the magazine and decided to develop it further and do something in print as well. And that was really like a dream come true.

How do you find photographers?

There are so many photographers in the world right now. It’s not hard to find some. We find most of them through Instagram. But we also get a lot of messages every day.When someone appears on C-Heads, they’ve always passed through our eyes (laughing). That sounds funny when you talk about it, but yes, it’s usually decided in seconds whether it fits C-Heads or not.

An image can be staged, or natural. Analog or digital. The main thing is that we feel something with the image. That it stimulates our imagination. Or makes us dream. In a time where there are pictures like sand on the sea, it is often not easy, because much is constantly repeated. And yet photographers always manage to enchant us anew and show us why we love photography so much.

In C-Heads we can find many bodies. What is body to you?

The body is the house of every human being. And we feel and treat our own house as something very important. Something that changes every day. From the day of birth, the body is always changing. In another sense, the body is a form. A beautiful shape. A part of the big whole. A part of nature. 

Since time immemorial, the human world has been fascinated by bodies. It is something that is in the primal instinct. And especially in a world where much is, let’s say, un-natural, be it the materials such as plastic, but also unnatural narrow habitats, the fascination of bodies is something pure.
